Your UPS shipment is Carbon Neutral!
All UPS shipments - domestic and international - from AirKayaks are Carbon Neutral.
What is Carbon Neutral?
AirKayaks elects to pay an added fee on each package shipped via UPS - worldwide. UPS then purchases certified carbon (CO2) offsets as a means to balance out the emissions produced by the transportation of your shipments.
What is a Carbon Offset?
A carbon offset reduces greenhouse gas emissions through verified carbon reduction projects. One carbon offset is equal to the reduction of one metric tonne of CO2 emissions. UPS purchases these carbon offsets as a way to counteract the emissions created by the transportation of shipments.
How are Offsets Calculated?
At the beginning of each year, UPS conducts an audit to determine the total amount of emissions released by the previous year's shipping. A second audit is conducted on UPS carbon neutral shipments to make sure that they have accounted for enough offsets to achieve the overall carbon neutral impact.
Retiring Offsets
Retiring an offset means removing it from the marketplace so it cannot be purchased again. Each individual offset is usually given a serial number and placed in an official registry to prevent reuse. UPS retires offsets for all carbon neutral shipments in accordance with industry standards.
What is Done with Carbon Offsets?
The Carbon Offsets purchased by UPS have supported projects internationally that include reforestation, landfill gas destruction, wastewater treatment, and methane destruction - projects such as the Garcia River Forestry in the United States, Fujian Landfill Gas in China, La Pradera Landfill Gas in Colombia, and Cholburi Wastewater Biogas-to-Energy in Thailand.
By having your package shipped via UPS, our Carbon Neutral shipping option lets you demonstrate your commitment to reducing climate impact and increasing sustainability.
The Carbon Neutral option is verified by Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS), an inspection, testing, and verification company. This means that you can have confidence in the UPS carbon neutral method. Additionally, our carbon offset process is certified by The CarbonNeutral Company.
